Rear Admiral PRB Dissanayake was appointed as Commander Norwest Naval Area. Prior to being appointed as the head of Directorate of Naval Administration, he was held many key appointments in the Navy.  

Rear Admiral PRB Dissanayake joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 07th January 1985 as an officer cadet for Intake 13th. Rear Admiral Dissanayake underwent his basic training at the naval and maritime academy (NMA) in Trincomalee and did SLT (Tech) course in Pakistan 1987/1988. He is a communication specialist trained at the communication school in India in 1994/1995. He  followed naval staff course in United States of America in 2000 , Seaport security anti -terrorism course in USA/2005  &  Invitation for civil military responses to terrorism programme course in USA/2008.

He also followed his National Defence collage (ndc) course in India in 2015 . Further Rear Admiral Dissanayake has equipped with a Master in philosophy on Defence  & Strategic Studies. Also he posses with post graduate diploma in Conflict  & Peace Studies .

Rear Admiral Dissanayake is a past pupil of Royal Collage Colombo. During his school career he has accomplished many tasks and has excelled in Basket Ball and received collage colours for Basket Ball. He is married to Dushanthi Dissanayake nee Gunaratne, who is a teacher of English and possesses Master Degree in Linguistics and blessed with a son Kalinga and daughter Manisha .

Rear Admiral Dissanayake is excelled in Basket ball representing Sri Lanka Navy for 07 years and has been awarded Sri Lanka Navy colours twice for Basket Ball in 1989 and Captained the basket ball team too.

Rear Admiral PRB Dissanayake has had the privilege of holding wide range of key executive appointments at NHQ and command level, including deputy Area commander (ENA) , Flag officer commanding naval fleet(FOCNF) .  He commanded number of patrol craft and fast attack craft (FAC) of Sri Lanka Navy and his last sea command was on FMV SLNS “Suranimala" which had actively participated in humanitarian operation.  Also he was held Commanding officer appointments in various establishments like, SLNS Vijaya, Dockyard, Gemunu  & Rangalla .

Moreover, he has been decorated with two gallantry medals for his bravery and valour for fighting against terrorists. He is a recipient of Rana Wickrama Medal (Individual gallantry in the face of enemy) and Rana Soora Medal (Collective gallantry in the face of enemy) and recipient of Utthama Seva Medal (valuable service and devotion to duty marked by exceptional ability).

He has also been recognized with much appreciation for his exemplary and distinguished service and has received many commendations from several Commanders of the Navy for his outstanding performance of duty, hard work, dedication, exceptional contribution and loyalty to the naval service.
