Sri Lanka Navy foiled an LTTE suicide attempt on two merchant ships, “Nimalawa” and “Ruhunu” carrying humanitarian assistance to the North, in the Northern seas around 0510 hrs today morning (22nd October 2008).

Two LTTE suicide boats were completely destroyed and one was captured by the Navy patrol craft reacting immediately to the terrorist attempt on the two merchant ships on a humanitarian assistance mission.

One of the ships received minor damages due to a close explosion. The Navy suffered no casualties in the incident.

The ships were carrying humanitarian assistance from Colombo to the civilians in the Northern peninsula whose livelihood is being disrupted due to the atrocities perpetrated  by the LTTE terror outfit which is being repeatedly defeated from all fronts in the battlefield.

This is yet another ruthless LTTE act against the humanitarian assistance process that is being carried out by the Government in its ever increasing concern towards the innocent people who have been held captive by the ruthless LTTE as human shields since the terror outfit is no longer able to face the victorious government security forces.

This clearly manifests the ruthless and merciless nature of the LTTE outfit as they have brazenly attempted to destroy  merchant ships exclusively charted for humanitarian purposes.
