Navy assists in the Transportation of Essential Food and Medicine to Mullaithivu on Board MV City of Dublin
Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the transportation of the essential food and medicine to Mullaithivu on board “MV City of Dublin” on the 01st of April 2009.
MV City of Dublin carried a composition of mixed food commodities weighing well over 1029 metric tons in addition to urgently required medical items, emergency health kits and shelter kits. The essential cargo is to be handed over to the Government Agent in Mullaithive for distribution among the Tamil civilians entrapped in the LTTE clutches.
Sri Lanka Navy assists in the loading and unloading of the ship cargo as well as providing safe passage to the cargo ship sailing under the ICRC flag. The Navy carried out the humanitarian mission at the request of the Commissioner General of Essential Services.
The Government has taken measures to dispatch food, medicine and other essential items in ship-loads to un-cleared areas. Innocent Tamil Civilians are being held captive by the LTTE cadres in their now-fast-diminishing grip against people's will. Civilian life has been made miserable and innocent people's flight is fast deteriorating due to the LTTE’s adamant stance to use them as human shields. This has prevented many civilians from seeking refuge in the liberated areas where the welfare facilities have been provided for their benefit.
