Navy Commander accompanies H.E. the President on his historic Visit to Kilinochchi
His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksha accompanied by a top level delegation, made an historic visit to Kilinochchi today (16th April 2009).
During his visit, the President extended the New Year greetings to the valiant troops stationed there and shared the joy of the occasion with all those present.
Kilinochchi, which was once considered the de facto administrative capital of the separatist LTTE, was liberated by the valiant Security Forces personnel on the 02nd January in their bid to liberate the entire Northern province from the LTTE clutches. It was for the first time in five decades that a Head of the Sri Lankan State made a visit to Kilinochchi.
On this historic visit, His Excellency the President was accompanied by Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary of Defence Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakhsa, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Roshan Gunathilleka and Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickramarathne.
