The Commander of the French Joint Forces in Indian Ocean meets the Commander of the Navy
The Commander of the French Joint Forces in Indian Ocean Vice Admiral Gerard Valin paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo yesterday (29th June 2009).The high ranking French Naval officer, accompanied by the French Ambassador HE Michel Lummaux, Defense Attaché of the French Embassy Commander Pascal Carre and the Commanding Officer of the French Naval Ship ‘BCR VAR’ Captain Frederic Babin-Chevage, , exchanged views with regard to security and matters of bilateral interest. The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda gave a detailed account of the Sri Lanka Navy’s role in the successfully concluded war on terror.
The visiting Vice Admiral Gerard Valin and Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda exchanged mementoes to mark the occasion.
Vice Admiral Valin arrived in Sri Lanka on board the supply ship ‘BCR VAR’ on a good will visit. Two officers of the Sri Lanka Navy are scheduled to board the ship to learn and experience the life on a French Naval ship. They will stay on board till the ship reaches its next port of call, Djibouti in Somalia. This exercise is expected to strengthen the ties and broaden the cooperation between the two Navies further.
