Naval troops deployed to observe LTTE movements, opened fire on a large group of LTTE cadres in the Kallampattu area in Trincomalee on the 27th April, 2007. During the confrontation, the LTTE cadres suffered heavy casualties. In a subsequent search operation, the naval troops recovered two (02) pouches and T 56 magazines belonging to the LTTE cadres.
 

Three SLN sailors were killed while another was injured in the confrontation. The injured sailor was transferred to the Anuradhapura General Hospital by SLAF helicopter. Reinforcements were sent to the area to prevent further LTTE movements.
