Born in 1936 and appointed as a Cadet
Officer in the Royal Ceylon Navy in 12.10.1953 and done the training at BRNC, Dartmouth, U.K.
He was promoted to Midshipman in 1955, Sub Lieutenant in 1956, Lieutenant in 1958, Lieutenant Commander
in 1966
and Commander in 1973. Then promoted to the rank of Captain in 1978, Commodore
in 1983. He was the first Chief of Staff to be
promoted to Rear Admiral in 1986. Then promoted to Vice Admiral on appointment to Command
and Admiral upon retirement on 31st October 1991.
