Navy assists Indian Fishing Boat in Distress to return safely home

Sri Lanka Navy assisted an Indian fishing boat in distress to return safely home yesterday (19 January 2010) with the provision of required food and fuel to reach the Indian shores.

The 22-feet long “Dingy Type” Indian fishing boat bearing the Registration No. TN/07/FRPC/48 had run out of fuel and drifted as a result into Sri Lankan waters. It beached at the Madagal Coast in the Jaffna peninsula yesterday morning around 1150 hrs with a crew of four (04). They had left for fishing from Mallipattnam in Tami Nadu on 17 January and are residents of Mallipattnam and Nagapattnam in India.

The Naval personnel at SLNS Agbo in Madagal had rushed assistance to the fishing crew who were famished from the sea ordeal due to lack of food for days. After providing food and required care to the fishermen, the boat was provided with fuel for the crew to return to Indian shores safely.
