Sri Lanka Navy takes part in the 62nd Independence Day Celebrations
Sri Lanka Navy took part in the 62nd Independence Day celebrations held in the sacred city of Kandy on 04th February 2010. His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksha was the Chief Guest. Religious dignitaries, Hon. Prime Minister, Ministers, Members of Parliament, Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the Armed Forces, Director General of Civil Defence Force, Inspector General of Police, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and Government officials also graced the occasion. A large number of people had thronged the venue to witness the fisrt historic Independence Day celebrations held after the liberation of the Nation from three-decade long terrorism. Among the distinguished invitees participating in the Independence Day celebrations was Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The three Armed Forces, the Police and the Civil Defence Force took part in the 62nd Independence Day Parade. Representing. the Sri Lanka Navy, Commodore MS Silva rode in the observation vehicle. The naval contingent which marched in the parade was commanded by Commander (G) MMA Alavi. It consisted of five sub contingents comprising a miscellaneous section of sailors, Fast Attack Craft Flotilla, Special Boat Squadron (SBS), patrolmen and Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) and women sailors.
