Navy gives impressive performance at Navy Challenge Cup Sailing Regatta

The Navy Challenge Cup Sailing Regatta organized by the Sri Lanka Navy was held under the patronage of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe in the seas off Panadura Fisheries Harbour on 27th February 2010. Commander of the Western Naval Area Rear Admiral MTDJ Dharmasiriwardene was also present at the occasion.

The event got off to a magnificent start with supporting seas and pleasing winds inviting a keen competition for the sailing honours on offer. Thus, the spectators were able to witness a spectacular display of skills from the contestants taking part in the water sport, which is making rapid strides in the local sports arena.

Sri Lanka Navy’s boats flying their sails high were a great attraction at the competition. With their excellent performances, they won the 02nd, 03rd and 04th places in the Sailing Open category and secured the 01st and 02nd places in the Laser Standard category.

Commander of the Navy, who keenly observed the competition, was highly impressed by the overall performance of the competitors and commended all who strived to make the event a success.
