Navy rescues Five Persons marooned in the seas off Sand Banks

Naval troops of SLNS Thammanna rescued a group of five (05) persons who were marooned in the seas off the Sand Banks for four (04) days. They were safely brought ashore and provided with medical care and food yesterday (05th March 2010).
The group was attempting to return to the island in an Indian boat but had found themselves being stranded in the seas by the boat operator halfway. Alerted Naval troops rushed to their rescue and rendered them assistance saving their lives. All are males with ages ranging from 24 to 40.

The group is scheduled to be handed over to the Mannar Police for further legal proceedings after the preliminary investigations are completed.

With the dawn of peace, people are yearning to return to the island. On the 09th of February, Naval troops assisted a similar group of seven (07) persons attempting to come to Sri Lanka on an Indian dhow.
