Thammanna Boat Hoisting Facility upgraded utilizing available resources

The boat hoisting facility located at the Hull Engineering Workshop at SLNS Thammanna has been upgraded with the installation of a winch. It was made operational at a ceremony held on 04th March 2010.

The installation was done on a novel design implemented by the Navy Hull engineers in collaboration with the Naval personnel of the Command Engineering Department and the SLNS Thammana’s Ops Department. Installed utilizing the available resources to the maximum, the winch facilitates the routine under water maintenance of the Inshore Patrol craft which are deployed by the Naval Command for costal patrolling.

Maintenance work now can be executed efficiently without waiting for high tides since the facility operates even in medium-tide. It replaces the cumbersome manual operations and cuts down manpower. As a result of the upgrading, the efficiency of the facility has been increased enabling timely completion of operational requirements.
