Navy provides Medical Assistance to an Indian Fisherman fallen overboard in the seas south of Delft
Sri Lanka Navy provided medical assistance to an Indian fisherman rescued in the seas south of Delft on 07th March 2010.
The rescued, who is aged 41, is a resident of Seruvikkaran West, Urani in Tamil Nadu and had left Rameshwaram on board an Indian trawler named “Sagaya Mary” for fishing on 06th March. He had fallen overboard close to midnight and subsequently had been rescued by a Sri Lankan Fishing Boat named “Amal Putha”, having spotted him struggling in the sea.
He was provided with emergency medical assistance on board a Sri Lanka Navy craft and subsequently, brought to the Kankasanthurei Naval Base for further medical treatment.
The rescue comes as a result of the collaboration that exists between the Sri Lanka Navy and local fishing communities. It also shows the camaraderie shown by Sri Lanka fishermen towards their Indian counterparts and reflects the multi-faceted humanitarian role performed by the Sri Lanka Navy in rendering assistance to both local and foreign fishing crews found in distress in the Sri Lankan waters.
