Navy facilitates the St. Anthony’s Church Feast at Palaithivu Island
Sri Lanka Navy provided facilities for the successful conduct of the Feast of the St. Anthony’s Church located at the Palaithivu island. The Feast was held on 6th and 7th March 2010. Devotees from the Northern Peninsula and Mannar area, numbering 5304, sailed in 449 boats, to attend the religious services which were held for the first time after the dawn of Peace.
The Mass was held yesterday (7th March) with the participation of the Government Agent of Jaffna Mr. K Ganesh and Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander of the Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral SMB Weerasekara. Senior Officers of the Army serving in the Jaffna peninsula too participated in the event.
Sri Lanka Navy took the responsibility of organizing the event for the benefit of the devotees and provided them with water, medicare, sanitary and infrastructure facilities required for the occasion. Special Naval troops were deployed to assist the devotes with Life Saving personnel stand by to ensure the safety of the devotees which included both young and old belonging to all walks of life.
