Transportation of 1000 more civilians from Jaffna peninsula to Trincomalee was undertaken by the Navy today- the 31st January 2007, despite heaped operational commitments. Jetliner, the newly acquired Passenger Ferry for the navy, this time too, as has been utilized for civilian passenger transport previously, is transporting these civilians trapped in the Jaffna peninsula due to the closure of A 09 road by LTTE at exit and entry point at Muhamalai. The Passenger Ferry, Jetliner set off from Kankesanthurai harbour in the morning today at 08.25 under heavy and tight naval escort.

LTTE had made abortive attempts to attack this Passenger Ferry several times when transporting civilians, regardless of this humanitarian assistance rendered to the innocent by the navy.

Transportation of 300 civilians from Jaffna to Trincomalee had been undertaken last by ‘Green Ocean 01’ on 13th January, but could not attend to it thereafter as she had gone to dry docks for repairs.
