Naval personnel of SLNS Elara under the Northern Naval Command of the Sri Lanka Navy built two new houses for two resettled families in Karainagar. The houses were handed over to the occupants by Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Susith Weerasekera on 13th October 2010.
The two houses were built under the direction of the Commander Northern Naval Area as a contribution to the Northern area development and under the Government Initiative to grant new houses to resettled civilians in the Northern province. The house recipients expressed their gratitude to the Navy for their generosity in coming to their help and building new houses for their families to start their life afresh.

Under the direction of the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, Sri Lanka Navy has been carrying out a number of humanitarian assistance programmes to reach the hearts and minds of the people who had been battered by three-decade long terrorist war. Grateful citizens have placed a great deal of trust in the Navy for its assistance rendered at their hour of need. People readily approach the Navy whenever they feel the need, due to the excellent rapport both have built over the years through mutual cooperation and understanding.
