Commander of the Navy participate in Buddhist Religious Activities at Kandy in View of the 61st Anniversary of the Navy A series of Buddhist religious activities meritorious deeds – were conducted in view of 61st Anniversary of Sri Lanka Navy which fell on 09th December 2011, which the participation of the Commander of the Navy. These – meritorious –deeds were held at the historic city of Kandy where the symbol of the Buddhism – sacred tooth relic is located. The Buddhist religious activities began with a “ Gilampasa Poojawa” to Buddhist monks held on the 08th evening at the premises of the holy Temple of tooth which house the sacred tooth relic. It was followed by a Pahan Pooja- a lamp illuminating campaign held at the temple premises to coincide with the 61st Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy. The Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake and many other Naval officers took part in the religious activities. On 09th December the Commander of the Navy worshiped the Temple of Teeth and called on the prelates of Asgiriya and Malwatta chapters and received their blessing before participating in an alms giving for Buddhist monks the Anniversary and in memory of those who paid supreme for their motherland. Commander of the navy congratulates navy beach games medalists. A The medalists, who won gold, silver and bronze medals at the South Asian Beach Games called on the Commander of the Navy at the Naval Headquarters on 17th October 2011. The Navy Commander congratulated all the medalists and thanked them for bringing glory to mother Lanka and making the Navy proud with their excellent performances. Each gold medalist was presented with a cash award of Rs. 25,000/= while silver and bronze medalists were given Rs. 20,000/= and Rs. 15,000/= respectively. All these Naval sportsmen and sportswomen are members of National teams of their respective games. |

W. A. S. Dissanayake, WV, RSP & Bar, VSV, USP, ndc, as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and promoted him to the 3-star rank of Vice Admiral.
