Rear Admiral D.V. Hunter - Sri Lanka Navy

Born  in 1917 and enlisted as Signalman / Gunner in the Ceylon Naval Volunteer Force (CNVF) / Ceylon Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (CRNVR) with the first intake of sailors on 21.10.1938. He was advanced to Petty Officer in 1941 and commissioned probationary as a Sub Lieutenant in 1942 and to the rank of Lieutenant in 1944. He served on all CRNVR ships and sailed MFV 185 to Akyab for service on the Burma front from 1944 to 1945, with general demobilization he reverted to his substantive post. He was remobilized and seconded for duty to Fisheries Department in 1949. Followed courses in Seaward Defense, Boom Defense and Salvage at U.K. in 1953. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1953, Commander in 1960, Captain in 1965 and Commanding Officer of Volunteer Naval Force in 1965. He was trained in pilot-age in Madras in 1963. After that he was promoted  to the rank of Commodore in 1970 and Rear Admiral at retirement on 31st March 1973.

Awarded star and Burma star for war service from 1939 - 1945 .
