Defence Secretary inspects KKS Harbour Reconstruction Project

Defence Secretary Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited the Kankasanthurai Harbour on an inspection tour of the ongoing wreck removal operation on 25th August 2011. He was accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonatilake.

During the visit Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral RC Wijegunaratne briefed Defence Secretary on the Kankasanthurai harbour ship wreck removing activities and its progress. Mr. Anuj Sahai, Project Manager of the Contractor M/S Resolve Marine (USA), explained the work scope and the latest diving and underwater cutting devices used for the project.

Defence Secretary inspected various machinery, equipments and vessels brought down for the project and had a first hand exposure to wreck removal activities within and outside the harbour.
