Male Sea Cadet Assessment Camp 2012 concludes
Male Sea Cadet Assessment Camp 2012, which was held at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee, concluded on 09th June 2012. Commandant, Naval Volunteer Force, Rear Admiral SMB Weerasekara was the Chief Guest at the concluding ceremony.
The Naval Wing of the National Cadet Corps, which was started in 2008, has now 180 platoons covering the whole island. Two new platoons from St. Patrick's College and St. Johns College from Jaffna participated for the first time at this year’s assessment camp.
St. Sylvester's College from the 02nd Battalion won the first place this year scoring 1242.6 marks. Dodangaslanda Sir John Kothalawela Maha Vidyalaya from the 4th Battalion won the second place.
Two Cadet Bands and Navy’s Western and Cultural Band presented a colourful show at the concluding ceremony, which was attended by officers from the Eastern Naval Area and the National Cadet Corps, the principals and teachers from the schools and parents.
