Navy rushes Assistance to douse Ravaging Fire at Kalpitiya Town

The Navy’s prompt action prevented a major fire from escalating in the heart of Kalpitiya Town on the morning of 15th June 2012. A Fire Fighting Unit from SLNS Vijaya of the North-western Naval Command rushed to the location and extinguished the fire.

The fire had erupted around 08.45 a.m. in a furniture shop and a nearby pastry shop. The Navy, alerted by Kalpitiya Police and Pradeshiya Sabha of the incident, promptly dispatched fire assistance and stopped the fire from spreading.

No lives were harmed in the incident. Navy’s timely arrest of the fire averted extensive damages to adjacent buildings and life. Kalpitiya Police are conducting investigations into the cause of fire.
