Navy saves Elephant’s Life
|
Naval troops attached to SLNS Pandukabhaya of the North-central Naval Command saved the life of an elephant at Kudahalmillewa in Poonewa on 16th June 2012. The elephant had wandered into the village in the night and had fallen into an abandoned agricultural well.
Informed of the incident by Grama Niladhari, the naval personnel rushed to the location and pulled out the trapped elephant to safety with the use of a backhoe, in an 1 and ½ hour effort, which was well-supported by the concerned villagers. Once set free, the elephant fled briskly into the jungle with a gleeful roar, probably feeling ashamed of the mishap that had caused such a commotion in the otherwise quiete village.
