Sri Lanka Navy intercepts Australia bound Multi-day Fishing Trawler off Negombo

Sri Lanka Navy intercepted a multi-day fishing trawler bound for Australia in the seas off Negombo on 29th June 2012. The trawler had 09 Sri Lankan nationals onboard who had intended to enter Australia illegally.

Initial investigations carried out by the Navy had revealed that more persons were to be taken onboard at different locations for the illegal journey. The trawler was intercepted by an SLN Fast Attack Craft and it had a large stock of food items, water bottles and personnel belongings of the passengers stacked inside. The arrested persons and the trawler were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
