Navy rushes Assistance to douse Mid-night Fire at Kalpitiya Town

The Navy’s prompt action prevented a sudden fire from escalating in the heart of Kalpitiya in the early hours today (15th July 2012). Naval troops attached to SLNS Vijaya of the North-western Naval Command rushed to the location and extinguished the fire.
The fire, suspected to be triggered by an electrical fault, had erupted around 01.50 a.m. in a shoe shop located downstairs of a two-storey building. Naval troops on sighting the smoke coming from the building, rushed to the location and stopped the fire from spreading.
No lives were harmed in the incident. Navy’s timely arrest of the fire had averted damages to the residents living upstairs and adjacent buildings.
