Navy win FA Cup

Navy won the prestigious FA Cup for the second time beating Army in a closely fought penalty shoot-out at the 2012 FA Cup Final, which was worked off at the Jayathilake Stadium in Nawalapitiya on 18th August 2012. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake and Senior Coordinator Navy Football, Rear Admiral Rohan Amarasinghe were among the distinguished guests that were present to witness the thrilling encounter of the two sister forces.

It was Army that dominated the first half leading the game 1-nill. Navy fought back with the equalizer in the second half and the game was poised in a keen tussle for supremacy, which was eluding both teams till the penalty shoot-out that followed. Navy’s Fernando, Roshan, Rathnayake, Lakshitha and Migara were right on target and never wavered an inch in the execution of their 05 penalties.

This is the second FA Cup victory by the Navy who won the coveted title back in 2010.
