Commander of the Navy visits Eastern Naval Area

Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake visited the Eastern Naval Area on 17th and 18th September 2012. He was received by Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Jayanath Colombage on arrival.

On the 17th, Commander of the Navy visited Naval Deployments Pulmudai and Mullaithivu and unveiled their official plaques. He declared open the NMA’s three-storeyed Gun Room constructed to provide accommodation for officer trainees. Thereafter, he declared open the SLN Dockyard’s Main Entrance Gate, which has now been given a new face lift. He also opened the Dockyard’s Main Galley, which is equipped with modern facilities for preparation of meals. He also laid the foundation stone for the Senior Sailors’ Married Quarters at the Dockyard.

On the 18th, Commander of the Navy declared open the Navy’s newest holiday facility, “Sober Island Resort”, located at the scenic island known for its natural beauty. The resort’s official web site was also ceremonially launched to coincide with the event. The Commander, thereafter, laid the foundation stone for the new academic building complex at the NMA. He also took time to open the Golf Club Hotel at Sandy Bay, which adorns the adjoining 9-hole golf course, now nearing completion for golf enthusiasts.
