Ocean Babies at SLNS Gemunu hold Handicraft Exhibition

The children of the Ocean Babies Montessori School at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara held a handicraft exhibition on 06th and 07th August 2010 at the school premises. It was declared open by President of the Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe. Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Damayantha Dharmasiriwardene, Naval officer in charge (Walisara),Commanding Officers of SLNS Gemunu, SLNS Thakshila, SLNS Mahasen and Commanding Officer Volunteer Naval Force Hedquarters, Senior Supervising Officer Ocean Babies Montessori School Welisara Mrs. Vajira Dharmasiriwardene,  members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit and teachers of the Montessori school also attended the event.

Navy Seva Vanitha Members donate Stationery for School Children in War-torn Village

A donation ceremony organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, for distributing stationery and gift items for the students of Kailan School at Mavaliaru, a war-torn village in Ampara-Karadiyanaru area, was held on 30th July 2010.The donated items were bought with the personal financial assistance given individually by the members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit.

The students and their parents were entertained with a magic show presented by the member of the Navy Band, Able Musician MWN Kumara, and were later treated with refreshments.

Mrs. Kumari Peiris, a member of the Seva Vanitha Unit, Lady Officers and the Staff of the SVU attended the event.

Navy Seva Vanitha bids farewell to Mrs. Nelika Wijayasundara

A farewell party was held by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit under the patronage of its President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe to felicitate Mrs. Nelika Wijayasundara at the NHQ Wardroom on 06th July 2010. Mrs. Nelika Wijayasundara was a senior member of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit and is the wife of Rear Admiral (Retired) RR Wijayasundara, former Director General Logistics.

At the farewell party, Mrs. Wijayasundara made a cash donation for the Scholarship Programme implemented by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit to award scholarships to children of Naval personnel killed, wounded and missing in action. She was presented with a memento. Members and lady officers of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit were present on the occasion.

Navy Seva Vanitha warmly welcomes Mrs.Madhulika Verma

Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Unit conducted a special programme on 28 June 2010 with Mrs. Madhulika Verma, the wife of the Indian Naval Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma who is on an official visit to Sri Lanka,.

Mrs. Madhulika Verma paid a courtesy call on First  Lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees and the President MoD Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa at the Ministry of Defence. She visited the Defence Services College in Colombo and watched a special show presented by the children of the school.

On her arrival at SLNS Gemunu, Mrs. Verma was warmly welcomed by Mrs. Malathie Samrasinghe, the President and members of the SVU. Director Naval Welfare, Naval Officer in Charge (Welisara), Commanding Officer SLNS Gamunu, Lady officers and members of SVU attended the event.

During the visit Mrs.Karmel Fernando, a member of SVU held a presentation on Seva Vanitha Unit of SL Navy for the Information of the Guest. The staff of the Beauty Saloon managed by the SVU came up with a bridal show. Items staged by the kids of Ocean Babies pre school and dancing items presented by Cultural troop of Navy Band illuminated the moment.

Mrs.Madhulika Verma  who visited the Ocean Babies pre school presented gifts to the kids there and posed for a photograph with them. To mark her arrival there, a mango sapling was planted by Mrs. Verma in front of the SVU office at SLNS Gamunu.
A souvenir and a gift were presented to Mrs. Verma by Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe the President of SVU and Mrs. Verma presented a computer for the use of Seva Vanitha Unit. The guest and the gathering were treated with refreshment.

Seva Vanitha donates a wheel chair

A comfortable wheel chair donated by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit for the use of  the elderly sick father of Able Seaman WM Chandrakumara was handed over to him by the President  of  SVU Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe at their  office in Welisara on 5th June 2010.

Other key members of the SVU also presented at the occasion.

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit is concern of the family members of Naval personnel as well and renders its commendable service to the needy ones in entire fleet.
   

 


Seva Vanitha  and “Ocean Babies” celebrate the World Environment Day

In view of celebrating the World Environment Day, a tree planting campaign organized by “Ocean Babies” Pre School was conducted under the patronage of Mrs.Malathie Samarasinghe the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit at SLNS Gemunu and SLNS Mahasen on 7th June 2010.

Naval Officer in Charge(Welisara), Commanding Officer SLNS Gemunu, Commanding Officer SLNS Thakshila, Commanding Officer SLNS Mahasen,Mrs. Vajira Dharmasiriwardena the Coordinating Officer of“Ocean Babies” Pre Schools, Lady Officers, teachers, parents and kids participated in the programme.

   

 

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit conducts a One Day Workshop

A one day workshop which was catered for The art of making and decoration cakes organized by the Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Navy was held under the patronage of Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit at the office complex of Seva Vanitha in SLNS Gamunu on 5th June 2010.

Naval Lady Officers, woman sailors and spouses of Naval personnel participated in the workshop conducted by Mrs.Priyanthi Subasinghe.

Navy’s Seva Vanitha Unit organizes workshops of this nature for Beauty Culture, Modeling, Cookery and sawing too for the benefit of Naval personnel and their family members.


   

Navy Seva Vanitha coordinates Donations for  Naval War Hero and Navy Hospital

The Seva Vanitha Unit of the ITI Institute donated fifty thousand (50,000/=) rupees for the construction of a bathroom for OD IDN Thilak Kumara who is wounded in action. The donation, made in response to a request made to the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy, was handed over at the Navy Commander’s Conference Hall on 19th May 2010.  They also donated a television for the use of the female ward at Western Command Naval Hospital.

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit celebrates New Year with patients

The president of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs.Malathie Samarasinghe along with the other members celebrated the New Year with the patients of the ward no. 17 which is sponsored by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit at Mulleriawa Mental Hospital on 10th April 2010.

At this occasion sixty (60) patients and nine (09) staff members of the ward were presented with gifts.

Ocean Babies at Trincomalee celebrate New Year

The children of the Ocean Babies pre-school at the Trincomalee Naval Base held their New Year festival on 27th March 2010. Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Jayanath Colombage graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, parents and naval personnel of the Eastern Naval Command were also present to witness the colourful event where a variety of traditional games were held with a view to imbibe national customs and traditions in the young minds.

The children, exuding the New Year spirit, took part in the day’s events, filled with happiness and joy welcoming the dawn of the New Year. The young participants were rewarded with presents for displaying their talents and skills.


   

“Ocean Babies” celebrate Sinhala New Year

The kids of the “Ocean Babies” pre school of the Sri Lanka Navy celebrated their annual Sinhala New Year festival at SLNS Gemunu,Welisara on 03rd April 2010.

The First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa graced the occasion as the chief guest and the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs Malathi Samarasinghe, Director Generals of Sri Lanka Navy, the members of the Seva Vanitha Unit and the parents attended at the occasion.

The Ocean Babies Pre School which is being managed by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy renders a invaluable service for the kids of Naval personnel, facilitating them with high standard learning environment comparatively being one of the best pre schools in Sri Lanka.


   
   

 

New Year festival at Ranajayapura Nursery

A grand New Year festival organized by the nursery students at Ranajayapura was held on Monday (April 05), with the distinguished presence of Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa.

The ceremony which emphasized on customs also included a variety of traditional games denoting the Sinhala-Hindu New Year celebrations.

The tri-forces Seva Vanitha Unit Chairpersons, Director General National Cadet Corps Maj General G.B.W. Jayasundara RWP RSP, Naval Commander North-Central Rear Admiral A.R. Amarasinghe, Director Api Wenuwen Api project Brigadier L.M. Thennakoon and Assistant Secretary ( Development)-MOD Mrs. K.M. Malkanthi were also present at the occasion.

Navy Seva Vanitha AGM 2010

The Annual General Meeting of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit was held at the Indoor Shooting Complex at SLNS Welisara on 20th March 2010. Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe and Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral DWAS Dissanayake also graced the occasion.

President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, all active members, representatives of women sailors and wives of naval personnel from all Naval Commands and representatives of wives of senior sailors belonging to all Naval branches attended the event.

Along with the AGM, several informative programmes were held for the benefit of attendees and their family members. Mrs. Kusum Wickremaratne, Wife of Rear Admiral (Retd) FNQ Wickremaratne, delivered a speech on the ethics women should follow while Dr. Samanthi de Silva, Head of the Medical Services Unit of the Hemas Hospital, Wattala, spoke on the Diabetes and how to prevent it. Professor Sarath Wijesuriya of the Department of Sinhala at the Colombo University delivered a lecture on Positive Thinking.

Adding colour to the Day’s events, a bridal show and dressing for an evening party were presented by women sailors attached to SLNS Gemunu Beauty Saloon which functions under the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit. The attendees were treated with lunch and the proceedings ended with all members pledging their unstinted support for the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit’s welfare programmes.


 

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Celebrates International Women’s Day

The President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs.Malathi Samarasinghe together with other members celebrated the International women’s Day providing Five hundred and eighty (580) women detainees and Thirty one (31) of their children with lunch at Magazine Prison Welikada on 9th March 2010.

The Seva Vanitha Unit distributed donations too for the use of Pre School children at Walikada Prison.



 

Navy Seva Vanitha presents Christmas Gifts to Inmates on the Ward No. 17 at the Mulleriyawa Hospital

In view of the Christmas celebrations, gift parcels were presented to the 60 inmates on the Ward No. 17 at the Mulleriyawa Hospital and 10 members of its staff by Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit along with its members on the 19th of December 2009. The inmates were also treated with tea and delicacies. Although they were away from their kith and kin for the festive occasion, the inmates were not feeling lonely as Navy Seva Vanitha Unit members were with them to share the Christmas joy and happiness. As part of its numerous social services, the Ward No. 17 at the Mulleriyawa Hospital is maintained by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit.

Commander of the Navy Chief Guest at Ocean Babies Annual Concert

The Annual Concert of the Ocean Babies Pre-School at SLNS Tissa was held at the Auditorium of the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee yesterday (21st November 2009). First Lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Smarasinghe and Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral SMB Weerasekera, several senior naval officers and members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit too attended the event.

The entertainment acts presented by the students captivated the audience that were present to witness the young talents. First Lady and Commander of the Navy distributed the presents among the young performers and praised them for presenting a colourful concert.

The Ocean Babies Pre-School is run by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit for the benefit of the children of naval personnel. The Montessori provides educational instructions in both Sinhala and English mediums to children who are aged between 3 and 5. A Day Care Centre also functions attached to the Montessori providing care to the young children.

Commander of the Navy Chief Guest at Ocean Babies Annual Concert

The annual Year-End concert of the Ocean Babies Montessori, Welisara was held on 16th November 2009 at 1700hrs in the new Band Hall of SLNS Gemunu. Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. President, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs.Malathie Samarasinghe was the Guest of Honour. Distinguished guests including Chief of Staff Rear Admiral DWAS Dissanayaka and Mrs. Nilu Dissanayaka (Vice President, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit), Director Generals and their Spouses and many senior officers together with their spouses were present at the occasion. A large number of parents, and relatives had gathered at the venue to witness the talents of their little ones.

The children numbering 47 from both Upper (19 boys, 08 girls) and Lower (09 boys, 11 girls) classes of the Ocean Babies Montessori entertained the large gathering that had come to see their talents with song and dance items. Their colourful costumes and innocence added charisma to the whole event. At the end of the concert the Commander of the Navy praised the little children for their excellent performance and also distributed gifts among them.

Children of Trincomalee Ocean Baby Montessori tour on board “Jet Liner”

As a part of World Children’s Day celebrations, the children of the Ocean Baby Montessori at SLNS Tissa in Tricomalee were accorded a ride on board the Sri Lanka Navy’s passenger craft "Jet Liner" on the 03rd October 2009. The ship ride, organized by Navy Seva Vanitha Eastern Naval Command, took the children accompanied by their parents and staff to the Nilaweli seas which are popular for its scenic beauty and rich sea life. The little children were overjoyed to experience a sea ride on board such a large passenger craft, which was considered the life line of the security forces during the humanitarian operations. This ship helped to link North and East making possible the transportation of thousands of troops between the two areas.

The Montessori also held an art exhibition on 01st October 2009 to coincide with the World Children’s Day. Wife of the Commander Eastern Naval Area Mrs. Kumudini Weerasekara graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed gift parcels among the children.

Navy Seva Vanitha celebrates World Children's Day

The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit held two special functions in view of the World Children’s Day on the 01st October 2009. President Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe was the chief guest at both events which were held as a part of the SVU’s social responsibility program. Senior Seva Vanitha Unit members and several Naval Lady Officers also attended.

The first function was held at the Ocean Babies Montessori at Welisara. The little children entertained the guests with a mini concert. They were presented with gifts by the Seva Vanitha Unit President together with the SVU members.

The second function was held at the Deaf and Blind School in Ratmalana. On their arrival, the SVU President and members were welcomed by its Principal Ms. MH Wijerathna. The School had organized an entertainment programme to show the students’ talents. The children were served with lunch packets and presented with gift packs.

Sri Lankan Association in Cyprus Parpose District makes a Donation for Disabled Sailors

Showing their generosity to Naval heroes, Mr  Sumedha Hadunge, the organizer of  the Sri Lanka Association in Cyprus Parpose District, donated  02 commode wheel chairs and 05 air mattresses to Sri Lanka  Navy Seva Vanitha Unit. The donation was handed over to Mrs. Ashoka Karannagoda, Hon. President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit by a representative at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo on the 30th of April 2009.

Mrs. Karannagoda thanked the members of Sri Lankan Association in Cyprus Parpose District for providing assistance to war heroes and expressed her appreciation for their commitment and concern towards our valiant Naval heroes shown through their benevolent gesture. The donated items were later handed over to the disabled sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy by Mrs. Karannagoda.

Although they were away from their kith and kin for the festive occasion, they were not feeling lonely as Navy Seva Vanitha Unit members were with them to share the New Year joy and happiness.

The Seva Vanitha Unit organized the "Sirasa Liyathambara" program at the Seva Vanitha Unit in Welisara on 05th November 2007. Mr. Pabilis Silva and Mrs. Desi Wittachchi conducted the program. SVU members and naval personnel also participated in this event.
