Navy Seva Vanitha felicitates Kandy District Ranaviru Families Under the patronage of its President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit conducted a “Veera Mapiya” Ranaviru Felicitation Ceremony at SLNS Shilpa in Thalathuoya on 19 June 2010. The event was organized as another step in the ongoing felicitation programme for Ranaviru families of the heroic Naval personnel who were killed, wounded and missing in action. Over 250 parents and next of kin of the heroic Naval personnel from the Kandy District were felicitated at the ceremony. Commander Western Naval Area, Commanding Officer of SLNS Shilpa and its ship complement assisted generously for the success of the event. Key members and the lady officers of the Navy SVU were also present on the occasion. The event commenced with invitees being conducted to the venue in a colourful procession. A preaching of Bana was held followed by invoking of religious blessings on the war heroes. A medical clinic was also conducted for the benefit of the family members and the matters related to their welfare were provided with speedy solutions. New bank accounts were opened with an initial deposit of Rs. 10,000/= and the bank account books along with gift packs were presented to the married Naval heroes' parents who do not receive any remuneration at present. The Ranaviru families were commended for the noble contribution they have made for the Motherland and the sacrifices of their sons and husbands who fought valiantly for the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation were remembered with gratitude at the event. The Ranaviru family members were treated with refreshments and lunch afterwards. |
