Navy Seva Vanitha builds a House for a War Hero

Under the Navy Seva Vanitha Project of building houses for Naval personnel killed and wounded in action, a house was built for the Naval War Hero Leading Patrolman PRMW Rathnayake (XP 24005) who sacrificed his life in the Digampatana terrorist attack in 2006. The house constructed at Ampitiya in Kandy was handed over to the family members by the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Srima Colombage on 13th May 2013. Members and the Staff of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Lady Officers and the family members of the late Leading Patrolman Rathnayake were also present on the occasion.

 

 

 

Navy Seva Vanitha organizes Special Programme to mark World Women’s Day

The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit under the patronage of its President organized a special programme to clean the Luis Danapala Home for Elderly Ladies at Kosowita in Gampaha and provide lunch to the inmates on 10th March 2013 in view of the World’s Women’s Day. Spectacles and gift parcels were also presented to them to coincide with the event.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha opens a Welfare Shop at SLNS Dakshina

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President, Mrs. Srima Colombage declared open the Navy Seva Vanitha Welfare Shop at SLNS Dakshina on 11th February 2013. Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, senior Naval officers and NSVU members were present on the occasion. The shop provides goods at concessionary prices for the naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command and their families.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit celebrates World Children’s Day

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit under the guidance of its President Mrs. Srima Colombage celebrated the World Children’s Day with a number of events organized on 01st, 03rd and 11th October 2012.

Children attached to the Naval Pre-school at SLNS Gemunu visited the Children’s Home at Thalagolla, Ragama run by the Child Development Authority on 01st October 2012. They offered presents and refreshments to the inmates.

A medical clinic for the children of the naval pre-school at SLNS Gemunu was conducted on 03rd October at the pre-school premises. The children were treated for ENT diseases and dental defects by the specialist medical officers of the naval medical and dental units. To coincide with the event, gifts provided by the DFCC Wardhana Bank were distributed among the children.

NSVU organized a dinner for the children of Pithipura Comunities Children’s Home and presented gifts to its staff on 11th October.

Parents, pre-school teachers, members and staff of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit were also present on these occasions.

Navy Seva Vanitha donates a Three-wheeler to a Father of a Child with Special Needs

President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake donated a three – wheeler to Leading Transport Assistant KAS Nandana (ED 34254), who has a child with special needs, on 27th August 2012. Funds for the worthy cause were obtained from the income received from NSVU’s Yoghurt Manufacturing Project and welfare shops.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha facilitates Eye Operations for Ranaviru Family Members

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit on the instructions of its President Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake facilitated the conduct of eye operations on 14 family members of the naval war heroes in Kurunegala and Puttlam districts.

The operations were conducted at the Seeduwa Vijaya Kumaranathunge Memorial Hospital on 24th July 2012 by its Consultant Ophthalmologist Shamantha Amarathunge. Specialists Dr. Padmini Samarathunge of the Colombo Eye Hospital and its staff provided their services free for the eye operations.

The event was conducted under the NSVU's project for the construction of houses and providing health facilities to the family members of the naval war heroes killed in action, utilizing the income generated from its Yoghurt Manufacturing project.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha facilitates Religious Ceremony for Ranaviru Family Members

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit facilitated the family members of the naval war heroes to attend a religious ceremony held at Gangarama Temple on 23rd July 2012. Fourteen family members residing in Kurunegala and Puttlam Districts who were scheduled to undergo eye operations attended the event.NSVU members and staff were also present on the occasion.

Seva Vanitha Unit of the Navy under the guidance of its president Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake conducted a medical clinic at SLNS Thambapanni in puttlam on 26th June 2012 for close relatives of the naval war heroes, who were killed, were in action.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha opens a Welfare Shop at SLNS Barana

Commander North-western Naval Area Rear Admiral PADR Perera declared open the Navy Seva Vanitha Welfare Shop at SLNS Barana on 28th May 2012. The shop provides goods at concessionary prices for the naval personnel and the families who live in married quarters of the base.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit provides Financial Assistance to Disabled Junior Sailor

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit donated a sum of Rs. 100,000/= to Transport Assistant SAS Anuradha (ED 34197), who has been disabled in an accident whilst on leave, for the construction of a bath room and a toilet. The donation was handed over by NSVU Treasurer at his residence in Mathugama on 11th May 2012.

The house constructed at Gurudeniya in Kandy was handed over to the family members by the President of the Navy Sevavanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake on 04th May 2012. Members and the Staff of Navy Sevavanitha Unit, Lady Officers, and the family members of the late Leading Patrolman JMWGAW Bandara attended the occasion.

 

Navy Sevavanithabuilds a House for a War Hero

Under the Navy Sevavanitha Project of building houses for Naval personnel killed and wounded in action, the assistance was given to construct a half built house for the Naval War Hero Leading Seaman TMSK Thennakoon (XS 29384) who sacrificed his life in the seas off Mullaithive on 22nd March 2008 during the humanitarian operation. The fully constructed house at Gurudeniya in Kandy was handed over to the family members by the President of the Navy Sevavanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake on 04th May 2012. Members and the Staff of Navy Sevavanitha Unit, Lady Officers, and the family members of late Leading Seaman TMSK Thennakoon attended the occasion.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit conducts New Year Trade Fair at SLNS Gemunu

In view of the New Year, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit conducted a New Year trade fair at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 07th April 2012. President of the MOD Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksha was the Chief Guest. Commander of the Navy, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, senior officers of the Navy and members of the NSVU were also present on the occasion.

Dry rations and clothes were available at the concessionary prices. Dreamron Ltd. conducted a workshop for the visitors.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha donates Sports Equipment to Welisara Naval Pre-school

Under the patronage of its President, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit donated a consignment of sports equipment worth Rs. 429,985/= to the Naval Pre-school at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 09th March 2012. Members of the NSVU and staff of the pre-school were also present on the occasion.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha conducts Medical Clinic for War Hero Families at SLNS Nipuna

Seva Vanitha Unit of the Navy under the guidance of its President Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake conducted a medical clinic at SLNS Nipuna in Boossa on 01st March 2012 for close relatives of the naval war heroes, who were killed and missing in action.

Specialist medical consultation/treatment was provided to the attendees by renowned general physicians and specialists in Eye, Skin and Dental Diseases, Gynecology and Surgery from National Eye Hospital, Galle and Karapitiya Teaching and Naval Hospitals.

Over 200 relatives of the naval war heroes from the Kalutara District and the Southern Province attended the clinic. Their welfare matters were looked into and dry ration packs were presented to each along with breakfast, lunch and refreshments.

Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa handed over a new house to the family of the Naval War Hero late Petty Officer IMSK Jayasinghe at Aluth Malkaduwawa in Kurunegala on 21st February 2012. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake and members of the NSVU were also present on the occasion.

The house was constructed utilizing the funds collected from screening the films given to the Navy free of charge by veteran film director Dr. Somaratne Dissanayake as a goodwill gesture. The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit coordinated the event under their project of building houses for naval personnel killed and gone missing in action.

Petty Officer Jayasinghe (XS 16881) sacrificed his life in action while serving onboard P 416 in the seas off Point Pedro in 2006.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha builds a House for a War Hero

Under the Navy Seva Vanitha Project of building houses for naval personnel killed and gone missing in action, a house was built for the Naval War Hero Leading Engineering Mechanic HMD Banda (EE 29730) who sacrificed his life for the defence of the Motherland. The house constructed at Gunnepana in Kandy was handed over to the family members by the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake on 01st February 2012.

 

The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Navy donates a House

Under the special housing project of the navy Seva Vinitha Unit to provide house for war- heroes who were killed in action, a house was donated to the family members of the war hero Ls NG Laxman XS 23023, at a special function held at Matara on 20th November 2011, The house was donated by the president of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs, Neluka Dissanayake. Many senior Naval officer, sailors and family members of the war hero were also present on the occasion.

The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy is committed to look after the welfare of the Naval personnel and their families including those of who made the supreme sacrifice in action. A host of special programmes to facilitate war heroes is currently being implemented by the Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Navy.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha donate a House for a War Hero’s Family

Under the Navy Seva Vanitha Project of building houses for naval personnel killed and gone missing in action, a house was built for the family of War Hero WUM Agalakumara (XP 19168) who sacrificed his life at Karainagar while serving the Motherland. The house was handed over at a function held in Kadugannawa on 11th October 2011.



Seva vanitha Unit of the Navy provides Medical Aid for the Families of war Heroes

Seva vanitha unit of Sri Lanka Navy has implemented a host of welfare projects for the welfare of Naval personnel and their family members. Among the projects are building houses for the fallen Naval war heroes’ families and uplifting the health condition of them.Profits generated through the yoghurt manufacturing project of the Seva Vanitha  Unit are used for this purpose.

In the first stage of this programme, at an eye clinic held at SLN Shilpa at Thalathuoya, Kandy on 25th August 2011, five parents of fallen war heroes suffering from cataracts were indentified and their eye surgeries were performed on 15th September 2011.

To perform these eye surgeries Dr. Chamintha Amarathunga Consultant Ophthalmologist of Seeduwa Vijaya Kumaranathunga Eye Hospital and his staff as well as Specialist Ophthalmologists Dr.Padmini Samarathunga and Dr. Prasanna Gunarathna of Colombo Eye Hospital and their staff provided an honorary service.

Necessary medicine for the eye surgeries was provided by Mr. P Sayandhan, the Country Manager of Abbott Medical Optics, Hemas Pharmaceuticals (pvt) Ltd., free of charge and the lenses were provided at concessionary prices.

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit to manufacture Yoghurts

Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Navy has initiated a project to manufacture yoghurts for raising funds for the welfare of war heroes who lost their lives or became disabled during the war. The project is set to begin from year 2011.

 

The necessary capital, infrastructure facilities and raw materials for the project are provided by the Seva Vanitha Unit while the labour is provided by the Naval personnel.

 

These Yoghurts are to be supplied for the consumption of Naval personnel providing them a fresh, delicious and nutritious desserts along with their daily meals.



Seva Vanitha donates a new house to Naval War Hero

President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake handed over a newly-renovated house to the wife of the Late Petty Officer RWL Kumarathunga who sacrificed his life on 19th January 2011 while serving onboard P 434. Family members of the late Petty Officer Kumarathunga and senior members of the NSVU attended the function held on 08th July 2011 at Rambukkana.

 

The house was renovated under the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit’s Housing Project for naval personnel killed, wounded and missing in action.

Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake declared open the Navy Seva Vanitha Family Welfare Shop at SLNS Tissa in Trincomalee on 01st July 2011. NSVU President Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake was also present on the occasion.

President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake handed over a newly-constructed house on 03rd June 2011at Jambhugahapitiya, Kandy to the wife of the Late Petty Officer RMCB Ranathunge who sacrificed his life in the aerial raid to Naval Dockyard Trincomalee in 2009. Family members of late Petty Officer Ranathunge and senior members of the NSVU were too present on the occasion.

Seva Vanitha donates sports equipment

Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Navy donated sports equipment for children of Naval personnel resided in Naval Housing Scheme at Hunumulle, on 2nd May 2011.

Equipment and accessories fitted at the Children’s park adjacent to the scheme, are useful for small children in their recreational activities to enhance both their physical and mental health.

President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake handed over a newly-constructed house on 06th May 2011 at Thihariya in Kalagedihena to the wife of the Late Communicator MUM Gazzale who sacrificed his life in 1998 in the terrorist attack to Navy craft “Valampuri I”. Members of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit and the family members of Com. Gazzale attended the occasion.

The house was constructed under the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit’s Housing Project for naval personnel killed, wounded and missing in action with the labour provided by Naval Civil Engineering Department.

 

Navy Seva Vanitha conducts a mega “Avurudu Pola” at SLNS Gemunu
Under the patronage of its President Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake, the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit conducted a mega “Avurudu Pola” at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 09th April 2011 in view of the New Year. A wide range of consumer goods including ready- made garments, electrical items, toys, shoes, various fancy items, dry ration, dry fish, rice, vegetables and fruit were available at concessional rates.

The pola is one of the many welfare projects organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit for the benefit of the Naval personnel and their families. The proceeds were channeled for the welfare of the naval personnel killed, missing or wounded in action while performing duties in the defence of the Motherland.

Navy Seva Vanitha opens a Vegetable Stall at Welisara
With a view to make the consumer needs available at concessionary prices for naval personnel and members of the General Public, the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit opened a Vegetable Stall at Welisara. The sales outlet was declared open today (24th March 2011) by President of the MOD Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksha in the presence of Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Somathillake Dissanayake, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake, Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Ravi Wijegunarathna, and senior naval officers in area.

The vegetable stall is opened as a welfare project under the direction of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake to help cut down household expenditure. It is equipped to stock fresh quality vegetables and is manned by courteous sales staff offering prompt customer service. The stall intends to make direct purchases and helps the farmers to receive a better income for their produce.

Seva Vanitha constructs a new house for Naval War Hero
The president of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake, laid the foundation stone for construction of a new house at Doragamuwa in Kandy on 3rd March 2011.

The house is constructed for the wife of late Petty Officer RMCR Ranathunge who was killed in action at Naval Dockyard Trincomalee, under the project launched by Seva Vanitha Unit. The construction work is done by civil engineering department of SL Navy.

Family members of the Naval war hero, officers and the sailors of Seva Vanitha Unit attended the occasion.

 

Special “Well Woman Clinic” held at Naval Hospital (WC) under First Lady’s Patronage
First Lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited the Naval Hospital (Western Naval Command) today (04th March 2011) and inquired into the welfare of the female patients seeking medical attention at the special “Well Woman Clinic” held under her patronage .

Female family members of the Naval and civilian personnel, lady officers and women sailors attended the clinic conducted by Consultant VOG Hemantha Dodanpahala under the Carlton “Suwa Udana” Health and Social Welfare Programme. The special clinic was organized with the aim of providing specialized consultation in order to uplift the gynecological health in females. First Lady also distributed gift parcels to the attendees and spoke to them about their health and its importance to the general wellbeing of their beloved families.

Navy Seva Vanitha constructs a new house for a Naval War Hero

The house is constructed for the family of Communicator MUM Gasali who sacrificed his life during the blast of Walampuri 1 off Point Pedro, under the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit’s Housing Project for naval personnel killed, wounded and missing in action and their close relatives.



Seva Vanitha constructs a new house for Naval War Hero
The president of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neluka Dissanayake, with the blessings of Maha sanga laid the foundation stone for construction of a new house at Abanpola on 26th January 2011.

Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe declared open the Holiday Bungalow constructed at Nilaweli on 26th December 2010. Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Jayanath Colombage, senior Naval officers and Navy Seva Vanitha Unit members were also present on the occasion.

Navy Seva Vanitha President declares open new Beauty Salon, “Salon Mermaid”, at the Eastern Naval Command

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe declared open a new beauty salon, “Salon Mermaid”, at the Trincomalee Naval Base on 05th November 2010 for the convenience of Naval personnel, lady Naval Officers, women sailors and the family members of the Naval personnel residing in the Naval base. Donation of Artificial Legs to Two Heroic Naval Personnel disabled in Action
Mr. Samath Win Daluwatte and Mrs. Krishanthi Daluwatte donated two (02) artificial legs to two (02) Naval personnel disabled in action at a function held at the Naval Headquarters on 12th August 2010 in the presence of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, and Director Naval Welfare Captain AAP Liyanage. Senior SVU member Mrs. Ruwani Obesinghe, who coordinated the donation, was also present.
 

 

 



Navy Seva Vanitha conducts One-day Workshop on Cookery
Under the direction of its President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit held a one-day workshop on cookery at the band hall of SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 20th June 2010.

The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Shantha Mayadunne and close relatives of Naval personnel, lady officers, women sailors, CAs and members of the Navy, Police and Civil Defence Department Seva Vanitha Units participated.

Participants were presented with complimentary gifts from the event sponsor Delmege Company. Delmege products were made available with special discounts at the venue. Prizes were also presented to the person with the most number of Delmege product wrappers and the two persons who bought the largest amounts of Delmege products respectively

Navy Seva Vanitha conducts One-day Workshop on Patchwork

Under the direction of its President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit held a one-day workshop on patchwork at the Indoor Shooting Complex at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 12th June 2010.

The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Shriyani Manawita as part of the series of workshops organized by Navy Seva Vanitha on beauty culture, modeling, cookery, cake making and sewing for the benefit of Naval personal. Close relatives of Naval personnel, lady officers and women sailors participated.



   
   

Seva Vanitha assists Naval War Hero in construction of the house

The President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Navy Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe along with other members paid a field visit on 7th June 2010 to the home of Petty Officer RAA Ranasinghe who sacrificed his life in action.

The war hero’s house which was under construction was completed with the Seva Vanitha’s donation of Five Hundred Thousand (5oo,ooo ) and labour provided by Naval Civil Engineering Department.

The wife of the fallen war hero was presented with a gift too, by the Seva Vanitha Unit at the house fully completed and had its warming ceremony recently.

   


Sevavanitha hands over new houses to families of Naval War Heroes
Sevavanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy handed over five new houses, which were constructed at Paradise Housing Scheme at Athawa-Wariyapola by Sevavanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Navy, to the families of Naval war heroes on 24th May 2010.

On the invitation of Mrs.Malathie Samarasinghe  the President Navy Sevavanitha Unit, Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa the Chairperson of MOD Sevavanitha Unit graced the occasion as the chief guest. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, Commander North Western Naval Area, other senior officers of Naval Headquarters and members of sevavanitha Unit attended the event.

New houses were donated to families of PO HRMS Vipulathilaka, PO MGKJ Darmawardena ,PO DMRPK Dissanayake who killed in action and to AB AMS Abekoon who disabled in action. The family of ME RDSC Jayarathna who fallen untimely  death  causing  sudden illness, was too donated a new house.

A Buddha statue for the nunnery at “Paradise Park” was also doanated by the sevavanitha unit.

The land was donated for this War Heroes’ housing scheme by Lieutenant KGS Udayasiri, a former officer of Volunteer Naval Force .

Sri Lanka Navy Welfare Directorate and Sevavanitha Unit continuously launch projects of this nature in order to facilitate the families of Naval war heroes  taking a part of responsibility to make a safety future for their wives, children and parents as well.

New House for Navy War Hero

The foundation stone for the new house for Navy war hero Petty Officer HPJ  Senarath was laid on 18th March 2010 at Alawwa inaugurating the Kurunegala District Housing Scheme (30 houses)   which is scheduled to be constructed for Tri Forces war heroes.The project  is operated by the Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order with the funds of “Api Wenuwen Api” and it is supervised by the Seva Vanitha Unit of  the MoD.

The President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of  the Ministry of Defence Mrs.Iyoma Rajapaksa graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Mrs.Malathie Samarasinghe,the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit attended the event with other key members. 





The Pre-school for the Ranajayapura Ranaviru Village opened

The Pre-school constructed for the young children of the soldiers in the 'Ranajayapura' Ranaviru Village in Ipalogama was declared open for the new school year at a special ceremony yesterday (08). Chairperson of the Defence Ministry Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapakse presided this event.

The pre-school for the children was opened on the same day in which the Ranajayapura village was declared open and given to the soldiers, however only the registration was done on that day. The students who were so registered on that day commenced their official term starting yesterday (08).

The Vice Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit and Additional Secretary Mrs. Indu Ratnayake, along with many members of the Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit participated in this event.

Navy Seva Vanitha awards Donation and Scholarships

Awarding of donation and scholarships organized by Navy Seva Vanitha Unit  took place at the CofN’s Board Room on 06th February 2010 at 1030 hrs in the presence of the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe. Navy SVU President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, Donors, senior members of the Navy SVU and the recipients were present at the occasion. The details of donation and scholarships awarded are as follows;
Rs. 100,000/= was donated from SVU to Mrs. D Abeysiriwardena, wife of     RAA Ranasinghe (EE 10335) – KIA, to construct partially completed house.
Scholarship of  Rs 15,000/= per year was awarded to six-year-old WMN Gimhani     Kumari Wasundara , daughter of LME WMC Bandara Wasundara (KIA) by Ms Rebecca Athulugama, Trade Lane Manager of DHL Global Forwarding Lanka (pvt) Ltd.  
Scholarship of Rs 2,000/= per month was awarded to nine-year-old KG Gayathree Parami , daughter of  Mr. Wijithaweera who was killed due to claymore      attack at Thabalagamuwa while transporting Naval personal. This     scholarship was awarded by Mr. Madawan Amarasiri, Director of MEGA Trend Group of Companies.
Scholarship of Rs 2,000/= per month was awarded to eight-year-old Divyanjali     Dissanayake, daughter of  NB Dissanayake, ED 23507 (KIA) by Mr. Hemantha Perera, Marketing Manager of  Basilur Tea Co (pvt) Ltd.
Scholarship of  Rs 2,000/= per month was awarded to six-year-old RD Shashika Ashan , son of  ME RDSC Jayarathne (EE 29243) who died due to a heart attack. This scholarship was awarded by Mr. Hubert Harley, Director of  Unitrades Ltd.
Scholarship of  Rs 2,000/= per month was awarded to ten-year-old EAJ Madusha     Ekanayake, son of  LPM EAD Dissanayake who was discharged     from the Navy on medical grounds. This Scholarship was awarded by Mr. Isuru Samarasinghe, Managing Director of  Unitrades Ltd.
Scholarship of  Rs 2,000/= per month was awarded to ten-year-old HM Aseni Manoddya , daughter of HM Sunil (ET 7244) -KIA by Hiran Samarasinghe, Analyst, Advisory Services, Pricewaterhouse  Coopers.
Scholarship of  Rs 2,000/= per month was awarded to fourteen-year-old ADW Anurudda     Yatawara, son of late LCdr (CE) DC Yatawara, who died due to a heart attack. This Scholarship was awarded by Mr. Gamini Abeywickrama,     Director of  Unitraders Ltd.

Navy Seva Vanitha conducts Ranaviru Family Welfare Facilitation Ceremony at SLNS Nipuna

The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit under the direction of its President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe conducted a Ranaviru Family Welfare Facilitation Ceremony at SLNS Nipuna in Boossa on 14 January 2010. First Lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. President of the Prime Minister’s Office Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Kusum Wickremanayake, Army Seva Vanitha Unit’s President Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit’s President Mrs. Nelum Goonethileka, Police Seva Vanitha Unit’s President Asha Balasooriya and Mrs. Kumudini Peiris representing Civil Defence Force Seva Vanitha Unit were also present.

The parents and next of kin of the heroic personnel from the Galle District participated in the event conducted as another step in the ongoing felicitation of the Ranaviru families of the heroic Armed Forces, Police and Civil Defence Force personnel who were killed, wounded and missing in action.

The First Lady personally listened to the views expressed by them and gave direction to the officials of the Welfare Directorates of respective services for speedy solutions to the needs of the Ranaviru families when she visited the Seva Vanitha Welfare Facilitation Stalls set up at the Navy base premises to attend to their welfare.

The Ranaviru family members were also presented with gift parcels as a token of goodwill. The Navy Cultural troupe entertained the guests with the performances of patriotic songs. The Ranaviru parents and family members were treated with lunch and afterwards, they were accorded the opportunity to board and view the Navy’s Flag Ship SLNS Sayura and “Diyawara” (ex-LTTE Ship “Princess Chrisantha”) at the Galle Harbour.

Commander of the Navy Chief Guest at Raffle Draw prize giving
Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe graced the occasion as the chief Guest and presented the first prize to the winner of the Avurudhu Pola and Carnival Raffle Draw at the Prize Distributing ceremony held yesterday (04th January 2010). The event was held at the Navy Seva Vanitha Office of the Naval Headquarters. President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff Rear Admiral DWAS Dissanayake, Director Generals and members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit were also present at the occasion.

The first prize, a valuable refrigerator was won by T Chani of SLNS Elara. The second prize, a 21 inch colour TV was won by VKAS Samaraweera of Navy Dockyard and the third prize, a washing machine was won by NDBD Silva of SLNS Nipuna. Many consolation prizes were also given away to winners.

Navy Seva Vanitha Christmas Fare at SLNS Gemunu
Navy Seva Vanitha Unit held the Christmas Fare at SLNS Gemunu on the 23rd of December 2009 for the benefit of all Naval personnel. Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe was the Chief Guest. President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, and a large number of Naval personnel and their families were present at the event.

Essential food items, electrical goods, household items, footwear, cosmetic items, readymade clothes and textiles were on sale at very affordable prices at the fare. It was open to all Naval personnel, Naval civilians and their families. A raffle draw, with valuable prizes was also held along with special entertainment items for little children. The variety entertainment programme presented by the Navy Band added colour to the event.

Navy Seva Vanitha commemorates World Disabled Day
Navy Seva Vanitha Unit commemorated the World Disabled Day  on the 03rd December 2009 by organizing  an alms giving program  for 87 persons admitted in the Naval Hospital and in other hospitals in Colombo area. Navy Seva Vanitha President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe along with some members of the Navy Seva Vanitha attended the function. The Director General Health Services Rear Admiral NELW Jayasekara and his staff were also present. After the alms giving the president and members of Navy Seva Vanitha spent time with the patients inquiring into their health and wellbeing.

A Magnanimous gesture of goodwill by employees of Print USA (Pvt) Ltd

Employees of Print USA (Pvt) Ltd, headed by Mr. Satish Abewickrama donated a financial assistance of Rs. 5000/= per month to three deserving sailors, in a simple ceremony held at the Naval Headquarters yesterday (22nd October 2009).

The event was organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit. The above donation of monthly payments will continue indefinitely with the generous contribution from all employees during their tenure at Print USA (Pvt) Ltd. Televesion And DVD Player Donated To OCEAN BABY MONTESSORI At SLNS TISSA

The Ocean Baby Montessori at SLNS Tissa in Trincomalee was presented with a brand new television and a DVD player on the 28th of October 2009. The children were overjoyed to have their new presents and showered praises of joy to all who contributed to make their long-awaited dream fulfilled.

The DVD player was donated by Mr. Kolitha Weerakoon while the TV was a gift from Mr. Priyantha de Silva who handed over the donation. Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe who was present at the occasion expressed her heart-felt gratitude to the donors for their generosity. Several senior Seva Vanitha Unit members were also present at the occasion.



Navy Seva Vanitha felicitates Parents of Naval Heroes

With a view to honour and felicitate the surviving parents of married Naval heroes, the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy, under the patronage of its President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, conducted a felicitation programme (Navika Weera Mapiya Upahara) at SLNS Pandukabhaya in Poonewa, Medawachchiya on the 22nd of August 2009. The event, organized under the auspices of Commander North-central Naval Area Rear Admiral MTDJ Dharmasiriwardene, was held from 0900hrs to 1500 hrs with the participation of the parents of married heroic Naval personnel residing in the Anuradhapura district and Medawachchiya.

Twenty Heroic Naval Families receive Permanent Shelter

Twenty heroic Naval families received houses built with the financial assistance of Dr. E.M.S. Edirisinghe, Managing Director of Oasis Hospital (Pvt) Ltd and President of Institute of Technological Studies.
The houses were ceremonially handed over to the recipients by First Lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapakse on the 21st of August 2009. Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe, Mr and Mrs Edirisinghe and several high ranking Naval officers attended the houses handing over ceremony held at Walahanduwa Estate in the Galle district.

In order to facilitate a better service and streamline the administrative process a new office of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit has been established at the Naval Head Quarters in Colombo. Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe declared open the new office on 14th August 2009. Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe the incumbent President, Director Generals of Naval Directorates together with their spouses and senior members of the Seva Vanitha Unit were present at the occasion.

Two Patriotic Sri Lankans in Cyprus assist House Construction for a Naval Person wounded in action

In appreciation of the sacrifices made by valiant Naval personnel in the war against LTTE terrorism, two patriotic Sri Lankans working in Cyprus have made available financial assistance for the construction of a house for a Naval person wounded in action. A cheque for the sum of Rs. 500,000/= in this regard was handed over to Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Mrs. Malathie Samarasinghe on the 03rd of July 2009 in the presence of the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe.

The donation has been initiated by a former Sri Lanka Navy Able Patrolman Wasantha Fernando who is now working in Cyprus after having served 12 years in the Navy. Deeply indebted to the Navy for the knowledge and skills imparted to him for a successful career in life, Wasantha, with the generous contribution from one of his workmates in Cyprus, Ajith Kumara Mayadunna, had decided to help one of his brethren in the Navy. The cheque for this benevolent act was presented by his mother Mrs. Ranee Patricia who arrived at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo accompanied by Mrs. HG Emilinona, the mother of Ajith Kumara Mayadunna.

The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit under the guidance of its President has arranged the donation to be utilized for the construction of a new house for Able Patrolman KDP Dissanayake who was injured in action on the 26th of August 2008 while fighting with LTTE terrorists.

 

Annual Concert of the Ocean Babies Montessori

The Annual Concert of the Ocean Babies Montessori of the Sri Lanka Navy was held at the Bishop College Auditorium on the 08th December 2008. First Lady Madam Shiranthi Wickremasinghe Rajapaksha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Mrs. Ashoka Karannagoda, the Hon. President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit. Madam Kusum Wickremanayake, Wife of the Honourable Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayake, Mrs. Ayoma Rajapaksha, Wife of the Defence Secretary Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksha, and Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda along with several senior naval officers and members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit too attended the event.

The entertainment acts presented by the students attracted the audience that were present to witness the young talents. Madam Rajapaksha distributed the presents among the young performers and praised them for presenting a colourful concert.

The Ocean Babies Montessori is run by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit for the benefit of the children of naval personnel. The Montessori provides educational instructions in both Sinhala and English mediums to children who are aged between 3 and 5. A Day Care Centre also functions attached to the Montessori providing care to the young children.

 

Seva Vanitha donates computers, books and stationery for schools in Awulegama, Nikaweratiya.

Fulfilling a timely need for enhancing the knowledge on Information Technology  of remote rural students,   Mrs Ashoka Karannagoda, the Honourabl President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy, donated  computers and their peripherals  to Ethawa  Primary School and Katagamuwa Primary School in Awulegama,  Nikaveratiya on the 21st of November 2008.

A large number of books, stationery and other learning materials were also distributed among the students of the two schools who were very pleased to have such materials in order to get their learning process facilitated and eased.

These events, which were attended by the members of the Seva Vanitha Unit, are yet another community service of the Unit evincing its great concern towards the future generation of the country.
 
 
 
 
 

 

The construction of the first house built under the SLN Seva Vanitha Unit’s housing scheme for the needy naval personnel affected by the war was handed over to M/S Draftings and Constructions. The house consisting of 605 square feet is to be completed at a cost of Rs. 842,360/=.

President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy Mrs. Ashoka Karannagoda, several members of the Seva Vanitha Unit and its staff, the Managing Partner of M/S Draftings and Constructions Mr. Samantha J. Madurapperuma and the Director of Asetro Financial Services Pvt. Ltd.  Mr. KGS Udayasiri are also in the picture.

 

To commemorate the world children’s day on the 01st October, a programme was held at the Ocean Baby Montessori at the Seva Vanitha Unit in SLNS Gemunu, Welisara.

To show gratitude and appreciation for the invaluable service rendered by the valiant naval personnel sacrificing their supreme lives in the battle field, the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy intends to construct a Ranaviru Housing Scheme for the needy naval families affected by the war.

Initiating this most opportune and timely act of the Seva Vanitha Unit, the construction of the 01st house of the project at Wariyapola was handed over to the M/S Draftings & Constructions to be completed at a cost of rupees 842,360.00

The picture below shows the singing of the agreement of the construction on the 26th of September 2008 between the Hon. President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy , Mrs Ashoka Karannagoda and the Managing Partner of M/S Draftings and Constructions , Mr Samantha J Madurapperuma.

This act of benevolence and numerous others are clearly indicative of the keen interest , concern and the dedication that the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy has for the betterment and the welfare of the naval personnel and their loved ones.

 

With a view to honour and felicitate the parents of married naval heroes, the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy, under the patronage of its Honorary President Mrs. Ashoka Karannagoda, launched the “Navika Viru Maupiya Surakimu” (Let’s protect Parents of Naval Heroes) programme, at the Naval Base in Welisara on the 07th June 2008. The first phase of the programme targeting thirty families was conducted there to coincide the national commemoration of War Heroes Day which falls on the 07th June each year.

A Dharmadesana was delivered by Venerable Diyasenpura Vimala Thero from the Vipassana Meditation Centre, Kanduboda, and it was followed by an invoking of blessings on the naval heroes who were killed and missing in action.

A counselling session was conducted by Mrs. Devika Colombage offering professional guidance. The parents made themselves avail of the free medical treatments offered by the medical doctors of the Sri Lanka Navy. The parents were also presented with gift parcels and savings books with accounts at the Bank of Ceylon.

 

A New Year Festival for children was held at the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit’s Ocean Baby Montessori at the SLNS Gemunu on 06th April 2008 under the patronage of Mrs. Ashoka Karannagoda, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit.

Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha ‘Giman Hala’ at SLNS Gemunu was declared open by Captain PM Wikramasinghe on 04th November 2007.

 

A complete house was donated to Mrs. ELP Edirisinghe, the wife of late Commander ELP Edirisinghe who was killed in action. The entire construction cost was born by the Seva Vanitha Unit.
 

 

Donation of Rs 300,000 in installments to complete the house of late Petty Officer RA Rathnapala, who was killed in action, in Kelaniya.

 

The foundation laying ceremony for the house of Ordinary Seaman VAMP Wijayalath was held on 18th May 2000.

 

Donation of Rs 300,000 in installments to Able Seaman DMA Gunawardena, who was wounded in action, at Polpithimukalana on 3rd March 2007.

 

The Foundation laying ceremony for the new house of late Medical Assistant LBC Kumara, who was killed in action, was held on 15th January 2007 at Rathmalana.

 

Donation of Rs 300,000 in installments to wife of late Leading Seaman NDS Fernando who was killed in action, to build a new house at Galgamuwa on 18th June 2007.

 

Donation of cash Rs 57,000 to the family of late Supply Assistant ALS Nilanka, who was killed in action, to complete the construction of the house.
