Navy rescues five school children from drowning

In a swift response to a request for life assistance, naval personnel attached to SLNS Dakshina of the Southern Naval Command rescued five students from drowning in the seas off the Galle Lighthouse on 05th March 2015. Navy divers and personnel belonging to the Navy’s specialized rescue unit, the Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Squadron, carried out the rescue mission. The rescued students were brought ashore safely and handed over to Galle Police station for onward action.

The body of the student who had gone missing at the time of the tragedy, was recovered by the Navy on 06th March and handed over to the Galle Police station.
