Navy rescues an injured fisherman in southern seas

Sri Lanka Navy rescued an injured fisherman in the southern seas, on 22nd June 2015 in response to a request made by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. He was brought to the Galle Harbour by Sri Lankan Naval Ship Samudura and fast attack craft (P 485).

The fisherman had been among the 05-member crew of a multi-day fishing trawler named "Sithsara", which had left for fishing from Beruwala Fishery Harbour on 12th June 2015. He had fallen overboard and sustained serious injuries needing immediate hospitalization.

Following the instructions sent by the Naval Headquarters, the Southern Naval Command directed SLNS Samudura, which had been on routine patrol, to bring the fisherman ashore. After the preliminary treatment by SLN medical personnel, the fisherman was sent to Karapitya teaching hospital for further treatment.
