The SLN's modernisation challenges are vast. However, the implementation of the Maritime
Strategy 2025 and MDSL will provide a sound base for the transformation of the force to face the
wider threats that it was previously unable to confront. Although the government has committed
funds for the SLN's modernisation plans in the short term, Sri Lanka's economic troubles may put
its longer-term plans at risk.
