44 Sayurusara 2019 July Preface:- The Navy Adventure sports was recognized and established as a club in 2014 and first chairman was Radm WDEM
Sudarshana . However voluntarily, the chairmanship of the club was taken over by RAdm DSAP Samarasinghe (then Commodore).
I did this write-up on completion of our first trek and for With his leadership navy adventure club explore almost every mountain and treks in Sri Lanka and he is keen adventure lover.
no reason I could not publish this timely. Chairman Adventure
sports, RAdm DSAAP Samarasinghe is due to retire from the
service in April 2019, and I decide that this is the right time to
publish this article as gesture to that dedicated chairman.
Down the memory line………………….
‘Sam’ the (Chair)man who launched the first Adventure !
After the inauguration of Navy’s “Adventure Sports” Club
fifteen (15) officers had the opportunity to embark on their
first excursion on the 15th and 16th August 2014 to the Hortain
Plains and trekking on to Sri Lanka’s second tallest mountain
‘Kirigalpotta’ situated in Nuwara Eliya district.
The Chairman – Adventure Sports Cmdr. Asoka Samarasinghe
took the leadership, while Secretary Cdr.Aruna Weeransinghe
assisted him with a great knowledge of experience and lot of
enthusiasm.
The team comprised of officers from different branches and
different ranks from Lieutenants up to one Flag rank officer. It was a nice blend of very
healthy combination as a team over flowed with a knowledge in different specialty.
On the 14th Aug all team members were asked to be present at the SLNS Gemunu for
initial briefing and also to practice on erecting of Camping tent, and to converse with
equipment which used for trekking. On the same day the decision was made with regard
to all the aspects on camping and trekking.
