               4.2 Technology and Information

The most common primary sensor used in coastal surveillance is the RADAR.
However, at present the RADARs are only being utilized by Sri Lanka Navy and
Coast Guard for maritime surveillance. These SLN and CG RADAR stations are
both ground based and ship/craft operated ones. SLAF is also using its ground
based air search RADAR for the surveillance and tracking of air craft in our flight
               region of responsibility.
